The Office of the Director provides overall leadership and direction for the Human Resources portfolio in its provision of professional human resources services across the University. The Office of the Director is responsible for the management, coordination and implementation of core and strategic HR services and relevant projects aligned to the ACU Strategic Plan. The Office of the Director includes specialist roles focused on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment as well as HR communications.
HR Business Partnering
HR Business Partnering deliver HR services to support staff through the employee life cycle. The unit is made up of four HR Business Partnering teams that each work with an allocated client portfolio to provide best practice advice on a range of HR issues and support leaders in the implementation of strategic workforce initiatives. The unit also includes a Capabilities & Development team as well as specialist roles focused on recruitment and superannuation/salary packaging.
The Capabilities & Development team deliver a comprehensive professional development program aligned to organisational frameworks that support both organisational and individual capability-building. These frameworks include the ACU Staff Code of Conduct, Capability Development Framework, Academic Performance Matrix and Evidence and the ACU Service Delivery model.
Collectively, all the roles in the HR Business Partnering unit are responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of everyday HR services. The unit ensures that staff and supervisor queries (including advice on general HR matters, payroll questions, training, staff benefits and recruitment) are responded to in a timely way. Staff can obtain guidance and advice about the ACU Staff Enterprise Agreement and ACU Policy and Procedures from this team.
Employment Relations & Safety
The Employment Relations & Safety unit incorporates Employment Relations, Work Health & Safety and Wellbeing, associated employment, people and safety policy development, enterprise bargaining and implementation, and relevant committees administration.
The unit consists of specialist staff who provide expert advice and guidance on employee relations/employment law issues and assist in complex case management as required.
The unit also has specialist staff who work with stakeholders across the University to identify and manage safety risks, monitor and respond to incident reports, and to ensure that ACU is a safe and healthy environment for staff, students and visitors.
Workforce Systems & Processes
The Workforce Systems & Processes unit incorporates systems administration, payroll services, and systems projects. The focus is on the development, maintenance and continuous improvement of Human Resources business systems that support the University, its staff and people management practice and process.
The unit is responsible for managing the delivery of services across a range of employment and payment related matters including payroll, deduction remittance and all associated regulatory reporting. Workforce Systems & Processes also has the critical role of managing the integration of HR systems with other ACU systems.
Workforce Systems & Processes supports the HR Directorate to establish and manage projects in line with the University’s project management approach.
HR Standards & Reporting
The HR Standards & Reporting unit incorporates a range of activities relating to HR services, standards and auditing, process improvement and reporting. The unit provides relevant and timely HR and payroll information that supports the operational requirements of the University.
The unit also coordinates input from HR in relation to strategic plans and reviews, the Corporate Services Portfolio Plan, the Organisational Unit Plan and associated progress reports including traffic light reporting.
HR participates regularly in internal and external audits and this unit coordinates HR’s involvement from the development of the scope, arrangements for the audit, coordination of resources across HR, receiving the report and developing the HR Response and Progress Report.
The unit is responsible for the reporting framework for all workforce reporting, both internally and externally, including Staff Statistics, Staff Quarterly Trend Reporting, Service Standards Reporting, Workforce Profile Risk Reporting, Workload Reporting, and facilitates their development to the University’s data warehouse and business intelligence tool enabling analysis and insights. The unit also manages data provision to all benchmarking/ranking programs in which the University participates and to the Workplace Gender Equality Agency.
This unit provides support to the University’s Academic Promotions process.
