The self-service password reset (SSPR) function allows you to reset your own ACU password. To do this you must use two of the authentication options you set up when registering for multi-factor authentication (MFA).

Note: If you don't have access to both authentication methods when resetting your password, you will need to contact Service Central for assistance.

To reset your password, please follow the instruction outlined below or watch the accompanying video.

Note: The instructions below use the Microsoft Authenticator app and SMS. If you choose different methods, the process will be slightly different.

Step 1: Open an internet browser and go to any system that uses MFA such as Outlook and log in using your ACU details (e.g. Username@acu.edu.au).

Step 2: On the 'Enter password' page click Forgot my password.

Step 3: Re-enter email (if required) then pass the Captcha and click Next.

Step 4: On the left of the screen, you will see all the authentication options available to you based on the methods you set when you registered for MFA.

You will need to use two of these methods to reset your password (this work instruction will show the Microsoft Authenticator app and SMS as examples).

Step 5: To use the app, select the 'Approve a notification on my authenticator app' option and then click Send Notification.

Step 6: a number will appear, and you will receive a prompt on your phone from the Microsoft Authenticator app, take note of the number and turn your attention to your phone.

Step 7: You will receive a notification on your mobile device. Open the notification.

Step 8: An 'Are you trying to sign in?' prompt will appear; instructing you to 'Enter the number shown to sign in.'

Step 9: Enter the number shown on your browser (not the number shown in the screenshot) and tap Yes.

Step 10: Once approved, your browser will automatically take you to your second authentication method. You can change which method by selecting different options on the left-hand side of the page.

Step 11: If you're using SMS, enter your mobile number, ensure the last two numbers match the preview on the page, and click Text.

Step 12: Enter the code that is sent to your phone (not the code from the screenshot below) and click Next.

Step 13: You will then be able to reset your password. Enter a new password. Re-enter the new password to confirm. Then click Finish.

Note: Passwords must be 14 characters long, with at: least 1 upper case, 1 lower case, 1 number & 1 special character. You cannot reuse old passwords or words containing your username.

Step 14: Your password has now been reset. Click click here to sign in with your new password.

Step 15: Log in using your university details (e.g. username@acu.edu.au).

Step 16: Enter your new password, and click Sign in.
