Welcome to the new academic year! This year the C4LTH will be continuing to support the work of the FHS and the University in the pursuit of excellence in learning and teaching. To achieve the goals of the FHS we will continue to develop and support effective networks and communication within the Faculty and with other units of the University especially the Learning and Teaching Centre and the Office of the DVC (S, L&T) and we will build and maintain external relationships. Here is a snapshot of what we have planned for 2013!
This year the team at C4LTH is working with staff on a number of projects including:
Redesign Project - Funded by NCAT, this project is focused on the implementation of blended learning pedagogy in partnership with the NRSG 367 academic team
Pre recorded Lectures - Funded by the DVC (SL&T). This project will review the effectiveness of making lecture content available prior to face to face contact to evaluate the impact on student learning
Post Graduate Strategy - MHPS Funded by the DVC(A). This project has been commissioned to develop a flagship post graduate program to be available online and through intensives. This exciting initiative is being developed by the School Exercise Science.
Retention Project – Funded by TSAR. This project identified barriers and enablers to student engagement and success in the first year of study across four courses (Nursing, Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Exercise Science) and embedded a first year transition pedagogy in key units. Many staff are involved in seeing this work to fruition.
Assessment Moderation – An ACU teaching development grant, this project is seeking to implement improved inter campus moderation strategies and to streamline assessment design processes.
INCH Project - Funded by HWA. Academic staff involved with this project are contributing to the development of a series of case studies to be made broadly available to health students
Implementation of PASS program (HEPP funded). This pilot project will see the implementation of the peer assisted student support program on the Brisbane and Melbourne campuses for students enrolled in two units in semester 2 and is being led by Brisbane staff in Exercise Science and Nursing. If successful it is hoped the scheme can be implemented more widely.
In addition to these formal projects there are other initiatives C4LTH is helping to implement. These are: an indigenisation of the curriculum working party, a new interprofessional learning implementation committee and the establishment of an English language working party. A new resource booklet is nearing completion for academic staff to provide information about what the Faculty does, key personnel, processes and pedagogies. In addition, team members from C4LTH have contributed to two OLT submissions for 2013 and a number of conference papers.
C4LTH will continue to offer high quality professional development events throughout 2013 with guest presenters from across the Australian higher education sector. The focus this year is on digital learning. By way of example, sessions will include experts such as:

Teaching development grant which is exploring a single framework for debriefing post immersive health simulation
The outcomes of a Faculty Review for Health Simulation will be prioritised and a strategic plan developed for implementation.
Driving enhanced capability of users of health simulation across the Faculty
Developing an e-Health record to enhance clinical learning
During the year C4LTH will conduct a needs analysis of e-learning activity within the schools to inform future FHS business plans. In addition we will be reviewing & revising the important eLF role. We will continue to advocate & innovate on behalf of the FHS, pursue and encourage SoLT, mentor, refer and advise. We look forward to working with you again and thank you sincerely for the support and enthusiasm you have shown for our activities since the beginnings of C4LTH. As always we are keen for your feedback and are always on the look-out for any RTIs (really terrific ideas for enhancing L&T!) to explore their potential with you!
