Important notice: Kaltura service will be retired in 2021. We now recommend using Echo360 instead. For more information please see LEO Guides: Transitioning from Kaltura to Echo360.

Kaltura media can be included in your units in two ways:

How to add a Kaltura Video Resource

The Kaltura Video Resource option selected by user This method allows you to insert a link to a Kaltura video in your LEO unit, which will open on a new page. You should already have the media you want to use uploaded to your My Media library.

  1. In your LEO unit, turn editing on, then click the 'Add an activity or resource' link in the section where you wish to add the video link.
  2. From the resource types, choose the 'Kaltura Video Resource' option and then click the 'Add' button.
  3. Give your resource a name (which will become the link text) and a description, and change any of the common settings that you with to set.
  4. Under the Video section, click the 'Add media' button. This will open a window that allows you to choose the video you wish to add. At the top of the window are some options that allow you to choose videos from multiple galleries, and search, filter or sort the videos in your My Media gallery:

  5. When you have found the video you want to link to, select it from the media list by either just clicking the 'Select' button for that video, or click the arrow beside it and choose the size of the video you wish to link to (note that if you do not select a size here it will default to medium):
Video with size option menu open
  6. Once you choose a size, the pop-up window will close and return you to LEO. Click the 'Save and return to unit' button to save and finish.

The link to the video will now appear in your unit as a text link, and it should open in a new page when clicked.

Students, like staff, are able to upload their own resources to their My Media library in LEO.

For an assessment task in your unit, you may wish to allow students to submit a video as a part or whole of their assignment. This can be achieved using the Assignment tool in LEO, and allowing "Online Text" as a submission option. Students can then embed their videos in the Online Text box when they submit.

Setting up an Assignment to accept Kaltura submissions

Follow this LEO guide on How to create a video assignment, which will guide you through the assignment setup. If it's your first time creating an Assignment activity in LEO, begin with the How to set up an assignment guide first.

Helping students to submit their assignments

When students submit their video assignments using the Assignment activity, they do so by embedding their video in the text box provided. This is a simple process that involves them clicking the Kaltura Media button and choosing a file to add. For steps on how to do this, please read and provide a link to students to the guide on How to submit a video assignment in LEO.
