Welcome back and to an event filled 2015. New year update from the Associate Vice Chancellor (Victoria).
As January seems to be rapidly disappearing; most people are
now back from their Christmas break and well into preparation to welcome new and
returning students to campus. The numbers are very positive and show continuing
growth across ACU and St. Patrick’s.
The St Patrick’s Properties team are frantically attempting to
finish as much of the capital works as possible before Orientation Week,
including our new and expanded cafeteria. Some projects are running further
into semester, for example the new stairway connecting all floors of the Mary
Glowrey Building and the works to finish the Square. These will be complete by Easter.
This is the year of the University’s 25th Anniversary, a
significant milestone. A schedule of events across all campuses will be
distributed shortly and we encourage all students and staff to join in the
spirit of celebration.
The highlight of the year, in terms of events, will be the
International Federation of Catholic Universities 25th Congress, hosted by ACU
on the St. Patrick’s Campus in mid-July. We anticipate representatives from over
220 Catholic universities from around the world.
We are also commencing the detailed planning of another
significant building development on the St Patrick’s Campus, situated on the
car park adjacent to the Mary Glowrey Building. This building is proposed to
have underground parking and be dedicated to flexible teaching spaces to
accommodate our growth. Wider consultation will commence in the second semester
and I will keep you briefed of developments.
