On the evening of Thursday, 12 May the St Patrick’s campus was host to the ACU Melbourne scholarships and awards ceremony. Professor Therese Joiner, the Executive Dean of Law and Business, did a great job of MC’ing for the evening, stepping in for Associate Vice-Chancellor, Dr John Ballard, who was unfortunately called away for the evening. The ceremony recognised the many achievements of the student base and the important contribution of the local organisations and people who support the University. The awards recognised an array of accomplishments, including academic excellence, community engagement and contribution, and professional values and excellence. ACU was privileged to have representatives from:
Australian Council for Educational Leaders (ACEL) Victoria
Australian Literacy Educators' Association (Victoria)
The Callinan family
The Gill Family
The Witts family
The Ralph family
CPA Australia (Victoria)
Graduate Management Association of Australia
Salesians of Don Bosco
Australian Association of The Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta
St Vincent’s Private Hospital
Victoria Teachers Mutual Bank
The event was a full house, with many family and friends there to support the deserving award recipients. The student vote of thanks, given by the Gill Family Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Bursary recipient, Kalina Brown, told a compelling story and showed the calibre of the award recipients, with Kalina describing how she was motivated to work in the health field after seeing the impacts on health in the Aboriginal community first-hand and how she planned to use the money she received from the bursary to help facilitate this.
