In order to upgrade to the new web-based Banner 9, there will be no staff or student access to Banner or Student Connect between 6pm AEDT on Thursday 30 November and 12 noon AEDT on Monday 4 December.
We will be rolling out the first phase of the upgrade to the new web-based Banner 9 on the first weekend in December 2017. As a result, there will be no staff or student access to Banner or Student Connect between 6pm AEDT on Thursday 30 November and 12 noon AEDT on Monday 4 December.
We are aware that the final date for results upload for Semester 2 is Tuesday 5 December, and that the timing of this shutdown may cause difficulties for academic and professional staff needing to upload results.
It is, however, imperative that the upgrade takes place before the end of the year so that Banner and Student Connect will have the capacity to store and publish marks from the beginning of 2018. We have thoroughly canvassed all the alternatives, and this weekend is the only available time that such an update can take place.
If it is possible to bring the system up earlier on the Monday, we will do so, and will alert all users immediately.
The Banner upgrade
What will change:
Easier web-based navigation
Clearer, cleaner user interface
Use of Single Sign-On authentication
What won't change:
Banner forms and functionality will remain largely unchanged. You will continue to use the same forms to perform the same tasks in essentially the same way.
Most function keys and keyboard shortcuts will remain unchanged, but it will also be easier to navigate without them.
What won't be changing - yet:
During this transitional phase, while most forms have been upgraded to the new Banner 9 format, some will remain in Banner 8. The new navigation system (Application Navigator) will, however, allow you to navigate seamlessly between Banner 8 and Banner 9 forms. You can easily locate a form without needing to know whether or not it has been converted.
Throughout 2018, we will be working to convert the remaining forms to Banner 9. Once this process is complete, we will be able to move to a completely web-based system that:
will no longer require Java
will be fully accessible on and off-campus
can be accessed via mac and pc, and mobile devices.
