All ACU staff will be invited to have their say on their University when the myVoice staff engagement survey opens on 27 March. Administered by independent research and consulting company Voice Project, the survey gives staff the opportunity to confidentially share their views on ACU as a place to work.
ACU’s fourth myVoice staff engagement survey will be run from 27 March until 7 April, and all staff will be invited to have their say on their University.
Held every few years, the myVoice survey asks for your feedback on ACU as a place to work, and about a range of management practises. Since 2009, the University has invested in running the myVoice survey as part of its ongoing consultation with staff to inform our culture and future strategic direction.
The results of each myVoice survey help the University to plan for future improvements, and staff feedback guides operational decisions at all levels. See examples that show how the University has taken action on issues raised by staff in the 2014 myVoice.

The myVoice survey is administered by Voice Project, an independent research and consulting company associated with Macquarie University. Voice Project specialises in survey methodology and results analysis, and has had over 15 years’ experience administering staff surveys across more than 3,000 organisations.
Director of Voice Project Dr Peter Langford says the myVoice survey provides a safe and confidential mechanism by which staff can express their views about their University, as only de-identified and aggregated data is returned to ACU.
“Any personal data that is collected through the survey is only used to enable Voice Project to collect survey results against a range of preset demographic data and provide accurate reports back to the University and relevant to business units. The confidentiality of survey responses is assured, because individual responses are not passed back to ACU in the survey results. All results are aggregated, and reports are only generated for business units and staff groups when 10 or more people have completed the survey” Dr Langford said.
Dr Langford says that the scientific rigour of the survey methodology adds value by supporting “the ABC’s of staff engagement” which translate staff feedback into organisational insights based on empirical data:
“A – Assessment, the myVoice survey is an important tool that enables ACU to measure how it is tracking against key organisational goals such as specific University Performance Indicators and Targets within the ACU Strategic Plan.
B – Benchmarking – the survey results are a health-check on staff engagement and organisational performance indicators, which can be compared across the higher education sector and with broader industry.
C – Consultation - the survey provides the opportunity for staff to have their say in a safe environment so they can give honest feedback to inform strategic planning.”
Dr Langford said managers showed a strong interest in a presentation he gave of the 2014 myVoice results at last years’ Leading and Managing in the ACU Context Conference.
The presentation prompted discussion about specific indicators which show that supervisors can have significant influence on performance when it comes to driving staff engagement, teaching quality, and research output.
“The analysis of the myVoice results allows managers to discover actionable insights, as it highlights areas for improvement that can have a real impact on ‘passion and progress’ within their organisation,” Dr Langford said.
“Participating in the myVoice survey can be a valuable opportunity for your views to be heard by the ACU executives and management staff throughout the University.”
Dr Langford said.The 2017 myVoice survey will be open 27 March – 7 April. All continuing, fixed term, casual and sessional staff will receive an email invitation containing a link to the survey on 27 March.
Voice Project will present the University-wide survey results to ACU staff at campus presentations mid-year.
