ACU successfully hosts four international events in Melbourne
After over two years of planning and preparation, ACU successfully hosted and organised four complex interrelated international events from 6 - 17 July at our St Patrick’s Campus in Melbourne. These included:
The XIX General Assembly of the Association of Universities entrusted to the Society of Jesus in Latin America (AUSJAL)
Expanding the Jesuit Higher Education Network
Collaborations for Social Justice Conference
The 25th General Assembly of IFCU.
The events held over a two-week period collectively attracted more than 500 delegates from over 40 countries.
Delegates included key decision makers from leading international Catholic Higher Education institutions, Rome stakeholders, federal and state government representatives, leading domestic universities, as well as local education and health sector leaders.
Some Key Outcomes
Collaboration opportunities with the Jesuit Higher Education network
ACU’s hosting of the Jesuit Higher Education Conference consolidated ties with Loyola University Chicago, via their Chancellor and Secretary for Jesuit Higher Education, Reverend Michael Garanzini SJ.
ACU’s Core Curriculum was showcased during the events with discussions progressed to offer the Core Curriculum with Jesuit Beijing Centre for Chinese Studies.
Presidents’ Roundtable focus on academic internationalisation
Of the four events, the Presidents’ Roundtable was the only ACU-organised and led forum which gathered around 130 local and international higher education decision-makers, education and health sector leaders, government and education peak body representatives.
The Presidents’ Roundtable furthered ACU’s leadership in academic internationalisation. Drawing on the strengths of leading Catholic universities across the world, ACU will further and deepen our reach, presence and academic strength through international collaboration.
This would be achieved via collaboration across various international education models across varied geographic regions, unified by the Catholic Intellectual Tradition.
The Roundtable also provided a productive platform for ACU to complete extensive academic planning in relation to our new Rome Centre, a joint initiative with The Catholic University of America (CUA).
Key CUA representatives and ACU Academic portfolio held discussions and workshops around joint academic planning, governance and quality issues and operational establishment.
The meetings also strengthened relationships amongst the core CUA and ACU Rome Centre Leads.
A focus of my Office and broader Portfolio is a follow-up plan relating to the outcomes for ACU.
