On the evening of Monday 20 October, the ACU Melbourne student choir hosted their inaugural end of semester showcase in the iconic Cathedral Hall and raised funds for the ACU Future in Youth initiative.
Formed in semester one of this year, the choir consists of 21 currently enrolled ACU students, and is supported by the Students’ Amenities and Services Fees (SSAF).
Under the direction of Choir Director Faye Dumont, the newly formed group performed with immense skill and energy to an audience of more than 50 guests comprised of family, friends and members of the ACU community.
The 90 minute showcase included beautiful choral music by composers including Viadana, Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Tchaikowsky and Willcock, complimented by stirring vocal solos. Accompanist Lachlan Redd mesmerised the audience with his piano solo of Fredrick Chopin’s Ballade No. 1 in G Minor. After a short intermission, the performance concluded with the pop arrangements "I Got Rhythm", "Hallelujah" and "Blue Skies".
The showcase was a great success, raising a total of $585.75 for the ACU Future in Youth initiative through ticket sales and donations. The Choir looks forward to continuing the important tradition of music at ACU, and contributing to the vibrancy and energy of the university community.
