Strategies and tips for good mental health
Enjoying mental health means having a sense of wellbeing - it enables us to fully enjoy and appreciate other people. Just like your physical health, there are actions you can take to increase your mental health and wellbeing. Here are five tips to look after your mental wellbeing.
1. Healthy body - healthy mind. There are strong links between physical and mental health so it’s important to look after your body. In addition, learning can improve mental fitness as it builds skills and confidence and gives you a sense of progress and achievement.

Learn to cook a new healthy recipe
Take on something different at work
Enrol in a short course to learn about something new that interests you
2. Contribute to your community. ACU’s Mission articulates our commitment to "the dignity of the human person and the common good", which encourages contribution to our community. Focussing on helping others is a great way to increase our sense of wellbeing. Here are some suggestions for getting involved:
Volunteer your time for a cause or issue that you care about

3. Connect with others. Friends and family can make us feel supported and cared for. Developing and maintaining strong relationships with the people around you helps to improve the quality of personal relationships, and can have a positive impact on health and wellbeing.
4. Deal with stress. All of us experience stress to some degree as we cope with the pressures of modern life, but too much of it can be debilitating, and lead to mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. Learning to recognise when stress may be becoming a problem, such as experiencing feelings of discomfort or distress in particular situations is the first step. If you are having trouble winding down, you may find the following activities can help:

5. Ask for help. We all sometimes get tired or overwhelmed by how we feel or when things go wrong. Everyone’s life journey has bumpy bits and the people around you can help. This can be as simple as;
Speaking to your doctor or a counsellor.
If you have children, asking a friend to babysit while you have some time out.
