ACU staff are invited to participate in upcoming Mental Health First Aid training workshops which will be held on the North Sydney and Melbourne campuses.
Mental Health First Aid training is a two-day workshop aimed at all staff wanting to develop their knowledge about mental health issues and how to support others in their workplace, community and personal networks.
The course teaches participants about mental health issues and how to assist someone who may be developing a mental health problem or who may be experiencing a mental health crisis.
Content covered includes information about:
Depression (including suicidal thoughts and behaviours)
Anxiety (including panic attacks)
Psychosis (including responding to severe psychotic states)
Substance misuse (including crisis response to acute effects)

What will you gain from this workshop?
Participants will learn the signs and symptoms of these mental health problems, where and how to get help for those who experience these issues, and what sort of assistance is effective. Participants will learn about the steps involved to provide ‘Mental Health First Aid’ which is the help provided to someone in distress until appropriate professional treatment is received or until the crisis resolves.
