Join Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Craven and academics from Faculty of Theology and Philosophy and Faculty of Education and Arts for an interdisciplinary symposium on “Truth in Love: Conceptions of Compassion in Contemporary Culture”. Thursday 14 May at Strathfield.
In 2013 ACU introduced its new university shield with the motto, Truth in Love.As part of ACU’s 25th anniversary celebrations, the Faculty of Theology and Philosophy and the Faculty of Education and Arts are pleased to present an interdisciplinary symposium investigating the meaning, application and challenges posed by ACU’s University shield and motto from a variety of perspectives.
During the symposium, Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Craven will join scholars from theology, philosophy, visual arts, art history and social theory for a lively conversation exploring diverse interpretations and ramifications of ACU’s public symbols as representative of our corporate identity. The symposium will seek to uncover what ‘truth in love’ means and how this motto can enable the discernment of practical outcomes for a Catholic university as it conceives of ‘love’ especially understood as compassion in contemporary culture.
