Sarah Sona was presented with the Young Journalist of the Year award for the Junior Section at a special ceremony in Melbourne this week.
Earlier this week, Rachelle Bramley, ACU’s Sponsorship Manager, joined Australian Catholics Magazine and Caritas Australia to present schoolgirl Sarah Sona with the Young Journalist of the Year award in Melbourne.
ACU has been the major sponsor of the national schools initiative since 2010. The awards, which are run by Australian Catholics Magazine, aim to encourage students in Catholic schools to use the media to make a difference. Students are encouraged to find inspiring people and stories in their community and to share those stories with the world.
This year’s theme was ‘Justice Heroes’. Students were asked to write about a hero from their own community.
More than 1000 students from across Australia entered this year’s awards – a record number of entries.
Kathy Vozella, Director, Marketing and External Relations, said: “We are proud to sponsor the Young Journalist of the Year awards and celebrate the exceptional creative young talent across Australia. The awards are also a great opportunity for ACU to connect with Catholic schools and engage with students, teachers and the local communities.”
