Policy and Procedure on Managing a Student Threatening Self-Harm
Consistent with our Mission, we strongly support the wellbeing of our students and staff and are committed to maintaining an environment which is safe for all. We recognise that students will at times behave in ways that threaten harm to themselves.
We also recognise that at times it is important and necessary to access the assistance of external agencies and individuals to ensure the wellbeing of students.
The Policy on Managing a Student Threatening Self-Harm provides guidance and support to assist you in dealing with a student threatening self-harm. The Policy will enable a consistent and appropriate response when you encounter student behaviour that demonstrates the likelihood of a life-threatening student incident.
The Procedure on Managing a Student Threatening Self Harm sets out the steps to take when a student incident occurs at an ACU campus and off-campus, i.e. at an approved University activity in Australia (onshore) and outside of Australia (offshore).
ACU’s new Policy and Procedure on Managing a Student Threatening Self-Harm have been approved by the Vice Chancellor and are now published on the ACU Policy site.
The Office of Student Success has also developed a training program on LEO which contains a module directly linked to the Policy and Procedure. This is expected to be released by the end of May 2018.
