Here are some of the reasons why you should complete the GCHE.
We want to support our academics
ACU wants to help you be the most effective and efficient educator you can be. Completion of the GCHE by academic staff is one of our Vice-Chancellor’s strategic priorities for ACU. This priority will help us to advance our culture of excellence in learning and teaching.
You won’t pay any tuition fees and you may be given a 50 hour workload allocation
Tuition fees for the GCHE are waived for all eligible ACU staff (including sessionals). This means you’ll earn a valuable qualification without paying any fees - a substantial saving on a worthwhile investment in your career. Teaching-focused academics who undertake the GCHE will also be allocated 50 hours workload per unit.
The GCHE is valuable for anyone teaching in a university
The GCHE will help you understand education theory as it applies in the university setting, building on your existing knowledge and skills. ACU’s GCHE also covers our Mission and Catholic identity, elevating your teaching capability.
You’ll develop greater confidence as a teacher
Completing the GCHE puts you more firmly in command of the choices and decisions you make about how you undertake your teaching role. This translates into greater confidence, as your teaching is more firmly based on a scholarly foundation, leading to greater enjoyment of your role.
Your students will benefit
The learning outcomes you achieve through the GCHE translate directly to your practice as a teaching academic. You’ll benefit from the course and your students will too. Their engagement with your teaching, and the efficiency and effectiveness of their learning are likely to be enhanced. This increases their enjoyment in learning and the value of the education they receive from you.
GCHE students report good outcomes
In an ongoing survey of GCHE students, 82 per cent agreed the GCHE had helped them further develop as a teacher, while 72 per cent agreed that their participation in the GCHE has positively influenced their teaching practise. The GCHE is not simply an academic exercise leading to a qualification, it is a learning experience leading to real improvements in practice.
