book launch Dr Stephanie Owen Reeder

Australian history retold by ACU author

Dr Stephanie Owen Reeder, Education lecturer at the Canberra Campus (Signadou), has launched her fourth children's book Lost! A True Tale from the Bush.

Dr Reeder says her version of the 150-year old colonial story is targeted at primary school children and includes information sections on how children lived in the 1860s.

"Lost! is a true story of three children - Isaac aged nine, Jane aged seven, and Frank aged just three, who survived for nine days and eight nights in the desolate scrub of the Wimmera District of Western Victoria in 1864," says Dr Reeder.

"As well as retelling this amazing story of support, love and survival, I wanted to educate children about the differences between living in the 19th century and today."

The award-winning Canberra writer is a lecturer in children's literature at ACU and a freelance editor, writer and reviewer. She has worked as a history and English teacher, a librarian and a parliamentary editor. Dr Reeder also reviews childrens books for The Canberra Times and Australian Book Review.
