ACU Policies & Procedures

Assessment Policy and Procedures

The Assessment Policy and Procedures are currently under review. This major review is being undertaken through a co-design process with key stakeholders across the University. The Policy Review Working Group plan to table the updated Assessment policy principles at Academic Board in November 2021. Upon endorsement, the policy and procedures will be further developed and re-tabled at Academic Board for approval with implementation in Semester Two, 2022.

The revised Assessment Policy sets out the principles that underpin ACU’s approach to assessment. The revised policy seeks to broadly guide the design and adoption of valid assessment practices that shape the best possible student learning experience and outcomes and deliver assurance of achievement of those outcomes. The structure of ACU’s revised assessment policy is founded on the seven principles of good practice in assessment. These principles provide the theoretical framework to assist ACU in developing relevant and dynamic regulations to guide assessment strategies and procedures, as well as marking and grading decisions. It is intended the principles will assist lecturers and students to understand the nature of links between unit learning and teaching schedules and implemented assessment strategies. It is the application of these principles that leads toward the achievement of best practice.

Learning & Teaching Policy and Procedures

The Learning & Teaching Policy and Procedures are currently under review through a co-design process with key stakeholders across the University. The Policy Review Working Group plan to table the updated Learning and Teaching policy principles at Academic Board in November 2021.Upon endorsement the policy and procedures will be further developed and re-tabled at Academic Board for approval with implementation in Semester Two, 2022.

ACU’s revised Learning and Teaching Policy will aim to promote the achievement of best practice learning and teaching in two ways. Firstly, by ensuring that all learning and teaching practice is informed by a set of broad principles of good practice. Secondly, by ensuring that all academic and professional staff with responsibility for designing, administering or making decisions relating to learning and teaching have a shared understanding of the practice implication of these principles. Consistent with both the ACU Education Strategy and the ACU 2020-2023 Strategic Plan these principles align with the ACU Mission and embed principles of Catholic Social Thought.

The student experience is central to all university functions. Within this policy, the student experience is conceptualised as a lifecycle. The four principles of student experience, curriculum design, teaching and ongoing improvement through scholarship are interdependent and combine to optimise the student experience and underpin a continuous quality improvement cycle. These principles align to the Pillars of the Education Strategy.
