ACU's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Awareness Workshops are scheduled throughout each year.

The Cultural Awareness workshop is a core component of ACU's induction program for continuing and fixed-term staff. As part of our commitment to enhance cultural safety, an online Cultural Awareness module has been developed for casual and sessional staff to undertake as part of the induction program. All new staff receive registration information upon commencement of employment with ACU.

The workshops are highly interactive and provides participants with an opportunity to develop a greater understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples history and culture as well as an appreciation of kinship and community and its significance in the everyday life of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff and students. The workshop is facilitated in a culturally inclusive and safe space and topics include:

  • Cultural awareness in our workplace
  • Cultural appreciation and cultural perspectives
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' and Australia's history
  • The impact of Government policy and legislation on contemporary culture
  • Implementing and embedding culturally diverse and inclusive actions in workplace practices.
