Production types

Demonstrations

Demonstration videos are short instructional videos that show how to do something step by step—rather than just telling learners what to do. They model a process, skill, or behaviour in action.

Paramedicine Skills

To assist first-year paramedicine students developing their practical skills, we produced a library of 40 short demonstrations. These videos were focused on clear and concise demonstrations, and were used to supplement in-person demonstration in the lab, as well as for revision and reference. In this example, the facilitator demonstrates intravenous cannulation as it might be performed on a call-out

Surface Anatomy Demonstrations

In this project, we worked with an academic teaching surface anatomy, demonstrating how to effectively find and identify different parts of the body.

These types of videos help students better understand practical concepts by providing clear, visual demonstrations that support hands-on learning.

How to cook scrambled eggs!

We filmed a series of videos showcasing both basic and advanced cooking techniques in collaboration with our nutrition staff from the School of Behavioural and Health Sciences. This video features a quick demonstration of how to cook scrambled eggs by the wonderful Chef Maria.

Scenario based learning

Skills rarely exist in a vacuum. Students are expected to learn and demonstrate a wide range of skills simultaneously, often in stressful situations. Scenario-based learning adopts Peyton’s (1998) 4-step approach, to first engage students with an at-pace demonstration, showing all aspects of the scenario. Further deconstructed videos break down the skills involved, and speak directly to the student guiding them to better understand the skills and sub-skills they are required to develop.

Placenta Check

Following a postpartum hemorrhage scenario, this video guides students through the process of checking the placenta, noting key aspects to look for, as well as discussing how best to incorporate the family’s preferences and cultural traditions.

Vancomycin Administration

In a scenario focused on the administration of Vancomycin, this video was designed to familiarise students with reading the doctors’ order, and subsequently preparing the correct dilution of the medication.

Interviews

Expert insights help bridge the gap between theory and real-world practice, giving students access to practical examples, current industry knowledge, and the kind of tacit expertise that textbooks often cannot capture.

Subject-only Interview

This resource was created for a nursing unit focused on palliative care. In this video, we interview Father Joshua Scott, former ACU Chaplain, who shares his experience in pastoral care and offers guidance on how to connect patients with priests for pastoral and spiritual support when they request it.

This interview keeps the focus on the guest, rather than including a host or interviewer.

2-Person Interview

This resource was created for a history and archaeology unit focusing on the Dead Sea Scrolls. In this video, we interview Dr. Gareth Warne, Senior Lecturer in Biblical Studies, who discusses the Dead Sea Scrolls and their origins.

The interview is designed to be conversational and includes simple editing elements, such as images and graphics, to help illustrate what is being discussed.

Panel Interview

This resource was created to raise awareness about antisemitism and how to address related issues. It brings together several subject matter experts to share their insights and perspectives.

The format is a panel interview featuring three interviewees and one interviewer, designed to create a conversational and engaging discussion.

Exemplars

Exemplar videos serve as ideal models that can be imitated or studied. They help students visualise successful work, making academic standards clear and reduce confusion. By providing concrete examples of quality performance, exemplar videos build student confidence and guide them toward producing work that meets the learning outcomes.

Administering oral medication

OSCEs can be very intimidating, especially for first-year students. This video was designed to serve primarily as an exemplar, highlighting critical points throughout the scenario. Secondarily though it helps to show students what an OSCE looks like, helping to reduce anxiety and stress before their exam.

Insulin administration

Teaching staff identified that students often struggled to correctly interpret an insulin chart, so this video was created to clearly demonstrate that and other associated skills.

Case studies

Case studies are a common sight in tutorials, designed to give students a more real world scenario to investigate. Often however its difficult for students to build empathy for the participants when they’re abstracted away on a slide. Putting a face and a voice to the study can help students better relate to the characters, and more fully engage with the learning.

Jim Laverty

In this case study first-year nursing students meet Jim Laverty, an aging farmer who fell on his rural farm and came to the hospital. After meeting Jim, students examine his case over the course of several weeks in tutorials.

Dialogue Videos

Dialogue-based videos close learning gaps by turning complex concepts into relatable conversations. These videos often use a diagnostic approach, where a student expresses common misunderstandings and an instructor guides them toward the right reasoning.

Null Hypothesis Testing

This conversational format, paired with visual cues and short, focused segments, reduces cognitive load and makes abstract ideas easier to grasp. Unlike mini-lectures, these videos emphasise students’ seeing their peers problem-solving, experiencing setbacks, and ultimately persevering through challenge. (Chi et al., 2017)

Simulation materials

Simulations create immersive learning environments where students engage in scenarios designed to reflect real-world settings. Instructors define and control the parameters of these environments to guide students toward achieving specific outcomes. By experiencing the realism of the scenario, students can interact meaningfully and derive deeper understanding from the process.

The Sunnybrook Simulated Mental Health Placement

To better set the scene for students undergoing a simulated mental health placement, we collaborated with occupational therapy academics in creating the fictional Sunnybrook Mental Health Clinic experience.

These types of videos can help ease students into the simulation experience, reducing stress and anxiety. They can also serve to help motivate and excite students, as they gain an understanding of what their simulated experience will involve.
