Strengthening career planning and development
Cultivating a vibrant academic culture is one of ACU’s key priorities. Over the last year, ACU has been working to improve career progression and opportunities for academic staff through the Academic Promotions review.
In the 2019 myVoice survey many of you told us that you did not feel enough time was spent on career planning or that there were enough opportunities for career progression. You also shared that you wanted more involvement in the decisions that affected you.
The Academic Promotions review has been led by the Provost’s Portfolio, in conjunction with a governance group, and has involved extensive and broad consultation and transparent communication with our academic staff. This included two rounds of consultation workshops, giving staff a voice on matters critical to their career progression.
An advisory group, consisting of academic staff from across the university, has also provided expert input into the process, and will continue to do so as further changes are implemented in 2023.
Co-lead of the Academic Promotions Review, Deputy Provost Professor Chris Lonsdale, commended staff for their contributions to this major initiative.
“The promotions review process has been well received by academic staff. The opportunity for staff to openly share their concerns and provide constructive feedback has been a key contributor to our shared success,” Professor Lonsdale said.
“While there is still more work to be done, we look forward to building on the progress we have made as we finalise plans for further improvements in 2023.”
The promotions review is a major initiative of the Provost’s Portfolio and more information is available on the Academic Promotions Review webpage.
