How do I request a centrally run Supplementary Exam?

When requesting for your end of semester exam, there is an option to tell Examinations and Results (E&R) you would like a central Supplementary Exam to be held. If you select “Yes”, then all students who are eligible in your unit will receive a centrally run Supplementary Exam. You may review your exam request response by navigating to Examination Management System (EMS) > Reports > Report: Exam Request Summary.

Do I have to request a centrally run Supplementary Exam?

No, as the lecturer, you have the final say on the most suitable assessment type for your cohort, in line with the Supplementary Assessment policy. In the case where you are not requesting central scheduling of the supplementary exam, it will be managed by the School.

What exam paper is used for centrally run Supplementary Exams?

The Supplementary Exam may use the same exam paper as the Deferred Exam, as the exams will be run concurrently. For further information on exam paper quality control, please refer to the Examination Procedure for Staff.

If you wish to use a different exam paper for the Supplementary Exam, you may upload the paper to EMS for conversion by the published deferred exam paper submission due date (please refer to the relevant dates via the link provided).

Alternatively, you may build the exam directly in Canvas, which allows for a later due date, as the manual conversion process by E&R is not required.

Can I withdraw a student(s) from the centrally run Supplementary Exam?

Yes, as the LIC you may decide that a student requires a different type of supplementary assessment. Once the Deferred/Supplementary Exam timetable is published, E&R will distribute a list of NF students included in the central scheduling process. Please email E&R at ACU.Examinations@acu.edu.au to remove the relevant student(s) from the centrally run Supplementary Exam, this will now become a School-based supplementary assessment.

When will the Supplementary Exam timetable be known?

This is released at the same time as the Deferred Exam timetable. This is on the Friday of results release week.

How do students know if they have a Supplementary Exam?

Each student is emailed a link to their personalised exam timetable. This is how students are informed of all centrally run exams, so they are familiar with this.

How will I know which of my students is sitting a central Supplementary Exam?

Some of my students with an NF grade are not listed on the Supplementary Exam timetable sent by the Exams Section.

If a student was awarded an NF grade after the Results Due date on Tuesday (see dates on Results due dates for staff), E&R will not be able to include them in the scheduling process for the centrally run Supplementary Exam. These students will be eligible for a School-based supplementary assessment.

Your School will receive a list from E&R showing which students are scheduled to sit supplementary or deferred exams, based on their result status (NF/DE).

If you did not opt for a centrally run supplementary exam upon requesting an exam at the beginning of the semester, E&R will not schedule a centrally run exam for your supplementary student list. The supplementary students will be offered a school-based exam managed by the School.

The LIC will update the result in the Results Entry module in Student Connect within 10 working days of the student completing the supplementary assessment task or within 12 working days of the student completing the deferred examination.
