Audit and Risk Committee

Purpose and Terms of Reference

The Audit and Risk Committee (ARC) is a Sub-Committee of Senate and governed by University Statute 2.3. The Audit and Risk Committee shall, subject to the direction and control of the Senate, exercise the following functions:

• Liaise with the external auditor on the scope and effectiveness of the external audit.
• Review the actions taken by the University with respect to matters raised in the audit management letter.
• In association with the Finance and Resources Committee, where appropriate, review and pass comments to the Senate on the annual financial statements and other relevant documents.
• In association with the Finance and Resources Committee, where appropriate, advise the Senate as to whether the external auditor is likely to issue an unqualified audit opinion on the annual financial statements.
• Review all significant changes to accounting policies from an audit perspective.
• Review the risk management practices of the University in all areas of administration including litigation, fraud control and compliance with legislation.
• In association with the Finance and Resources Committee, where appropriate, consider and report to the Senate on such other matters as the Senate may deem appropriate.
