Mission Week 2026: Save the Date and Introducing This Year’s Theme

Each year, Mission Week is a significant moment in the life of Australian Catholic University. It is a time when our campuses pause to reflect more deeply on who we are, what we value, and the kind of community we are called to be.

In 2026, Mission Week will take place in Semester 2, Week 2 (10–14 August). We encourage all staff to save the date and begin to look ahead to what will again be a rich and engaging week across our campuses.

Introducing the 2026 Theme: Made for More

The theme for Mission Week 2026 is “Made for More”.

At its heart, this theme draws on a central insight of the Catholic tradition: that every person is created with dignity, purpose, and a vocation that extends beyond comfort, achievement, or self-interest. In a contemporary context where identity is often reduced to performance or productivity, “Made for More” offers a different vision. It invites staff and students to rediscover a deeper sense of meaning grounded in relationships, service, and the pursuit of the common good.

For us as a university community, this theme reframes the ACU experience. It reminds us that education here is not only about knowledge and career preparation, but about the formation of the whole person—intellectually, spiritually, socially, and ethically. It also speaks to the dynamic nature of vocation: that each of us is called not only to personal fulfilment, but to contribute meaningfully to the lives of others through our work and presence in the world.

What This Means for Our Community

Mission Week continues to be grounded in our Catholic identity and inspired by the witness of St Mary MacKillop, our University’s patron. Her life reminds us that faith is lived out in practical love and courageous service. As she wrote, “Never see a need without doing something about it.”

Mission Week is a time when staff and students alike are invited to engage more intentionally with the mission of the University and to consider how that mission can be lived out in their everyday lives.

The theme “Made for More” provides a shared language for this reflection. It encourages us to ask meaningful questions about our work, our relationships, and our contribution to the University’s mission. In doing so, Mission Week becomes more than a series of events; it becomes an opportunity for renewed clarity, connection, and purpose.

National Program

Across the week, our campuses will host a range of events, conversations, and formation opportunities designed to bring this theme to life and foster a strong sense of community and belonging.

Please find below the detailed program for each campus, including opportunities for staff engagement and participation. Please mark your calendar with the events and opportunities that resonate with you.

Mission Week is a unique moment in the University calendar and we look forward to celebrating it with you!

Campus Ministry Random Acts of Kindness Day

Writer and peace activist Anne Herbert coined the phrase “practice random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty” in 1982 when she wrote it on a restaurant serviette in San Francisco. Just over ten years later Professor Chuck Wall of Bakersfield College, California, challenged his students to perform a “random act of senseless kindness” after hearing a radio report describing “another random act of senseless violence.”
Be surprised by your response to the kindness challenges and consider getting involved as an RAK Day ambassador to activate this day with the Campus Ministry and People and Capability Teams. You can help make ACU a place where random acts of kindness are happening every day.
