Campus Ministry Random Acts of Kindness Day

Writer and peace activist Anne Herbert coined the phrase “practice random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty” in 1982 when she wrote it on a restaurant serviette in San Francisco. Just over ten years later Professor Chuck Wall of Bakersfield College, California, challenged his students to perform a “random act of senseless kindness” after hearing a radio report describing “another random act of senseless violence.”
Be surprised by your response to the kindness challenges and consider getting involved as an RAK Day ambassador to activate this day with the Campus Ministry and People and Capability Teams. You can help make ACU a place where random acts of kindness are happening every day.

Connecting across Walls

Mission Week invites us to reflect on where hope takes root - in faith, in love, and in action.

Within the Catholic tradition, hope and faith find expression through acts of love towards our neighbour. Please join us in writing personal messages to men in custody at Parklea Correctional Centre, who are studying through the ACU Clemente programme.

As one body, we build a community that reaches beyond walls.

2025 Simone Weil Lecture - “When Words Fail Us: Reclaiming a Language of Love”

Delivered by Stan Grant, a proud Wiradjuri man and one of Australia's most distinguished journalists and public intellectuals, this lecture is inspired by Weil's essay, Human Personality, especially her call for us to reach for a higher language of the soul, and to look beyond the usual language of politics. In addressing one of the great sins of modernity - our incomprehensibility - this lecture will respond to the populist politics of our time, exacerbated by the politics of identity and the dehumanising effects of technology in our lives, and how the current political context constricts our ability to speak.
