Separation due to Abandonment of Employment
If an employee is absent from work for a period of ten (10) working days or more without explanation, and they do not make reasonable efforts to inform their nominated supervisor or the next most senior officer of the reason for such absence, the University may deem the employee to have abandoned their employment with the University.
The University will take all reasonable steps to contact the absent employee. This will include the nominated supervisor or the next most senior officer attempting to contact the employee by phone, email, emergency contacts, and visiting the employee’s home address accompanied by another employee. These attempts at contact emphasise the University’s concern for the employee’s welfare.
If the nominated supervisor or the next most senior manager continues to be unable to contact the employee or is able to contact the employee but the employee fails to formalise this absence in writing after two (2) working days, the Chief People Officer will formally write to the employee advising that the University considers the employee’s continued absence an indication that they have abandoned their employment with the University.

Upon cessation of employment with the University, employees will be paid all accrued entitlements that are payable on cessation of employment including any accrued but untaken annual leave and the monetary value of any accrued but untaken time-in-lieu. Loadings and allowances will only be payable if they have been payable for a continuous period of twelve (12) months prior to the date of cessation of employment.
