Following the consultation process, the University will formally notify (in writing) the employee who is affected, that their position has been made redundant and the date of the commencement of the Notice Period. This formal notice will outline the reason(s) for redundancy.
Retrenchment occurs when an employee’s employment is terminated because of redundancy. “Retrenchment” means
the termination of employment of an employee whose position has been declared by the University to be redundant.
The provisions in this Agreement relating to redundancy and retrenchment do not apply to casual employees.

| Completed years of continuous service at the end of the day when notice is given | Period of Notice |
|---|---|
| Continuing professional employees with less than or equal to 5 years of service | 3 weeks per year of service |
|
Continuing professional employees with more than 5 years of service |
26 weeks |
| Continuing academic employees | 26 weeks |
| Fixed term academic and professional employees | In accordance with sub-clause 2.3(d)(iii) |
Consideration Period
At the commencement of the Notice Period the University will give an employee whose role has been made redundant twenty (20) working days to:
• elect in writing to be considered for redeployment; or
• express an interest in voluntary redundancy; or
• seek a review of the redundancy decision under clause 8.3.
If the employee does not make an election within the required timeframe, and there are no positions into which the employee could be redeployed, the University will immediately move them into the redeployment pool.
If an employee is on secondment at the time their substantive position is discontinued, and the secondment has more than twenty-six (26) weeks remaining, the employee will be required to make an election at the time their substantive position is discontinued. The employee may elect:
voluntary redundancy; or
redeployment, in which case the redeployment period will commence from the date of election in accordance with subclause 7.5(e).
If the secondment has less than twenty-six (26) weeks remaining, the requirement to make an election under sub-clause 7.5(e)(i) will be deferred until the conclusion of the secondment (excluding any extensions).
Voluntary Redundancy
Where an employee elects voluntary redundancy, their employment will end on the date specified in the written notification or such other date as the University and the employee may agree.
If the end date is earlier than the end of the Notice Period (if it had been worked out), the employee will be paid in lieu of the balance of the Notice Period and severance pay upon cessation.
An employee who agrees to an alternative employment end date later than the expiration of the Notice Period to suit the needs of the University will receive an additional payment equivalent to four (4) weeks’ salary. An employee’s entitlement to this payment will be confirmed by the University in writing at the time of confirming the employment end date.
