Purpose and Terms of Reference

The Honorary Awards Committee (HAC) is a Sub-Committee of Senate and is governed by University Statute 2.9. The Honorary Awards Committee shall, subject to the direction and control of the Senate, exercise the following functions:

  • Periodically review Regulations governing circumstances for the awarding of:
    • honorary degrees; and
    • honorary title of Emeritus Professor.
  • Invite, review and consider proposals for the awarding of honorary degrees and honorary title of Emeritus Professor and make recommendations to Senate in relation to such proposals.
  • In furtherance of Statute 2.9.2(b), the Committee shall:
    • Review nomination forms and accompanying supporting documentation.
    • Undertake any required due diligence and threshold level process in relation to individual nominations.
    • Prepare a report summarising the Committee's deliberations, followed by a series of resolutions submitted to Senate for approval.
