In January 2024, ACU identified underpayments affecting some casual (sessional) academic staff and commenced remediation payments to current and former staff.

Later in 2024, ACU began a broader Wage Compliance Program. This is a comprehensive review of employee entitlements across the university, covering obligations under staff enterprise agreements and relevant legislation.

ACU continues to provide regular updates to the Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) as this work progresses.

Payments are calculated based on the applicable enterprise agreement and/or award provisions in place at the time the work was performed.

The review is broad and includes:

  • base pay
  • loadings and penalties
  • allowances and overtime
  • leave and superannuation
  • other monetary entitlements under applicable staff enterprise agreements and relevant state and federal government legislation.

Yes. All applicable superannuation contributions will be paid into your nominated fund. 

Super is calculated at the current Super Guarantee rate (12% as at 1 July 2025), with interest applied to reflect the time value of the underpayment.

A remediation interest rate of 10% per annum has been applied to the affected superannuation contributions, in line with ACU’s approach to compensating staff for the time value of the underpayment.

Please contact us within 28 days of receiving your correspondence so we can review your payment. Include any supporting documents (e.g., timesheets, rosters, emails).

No. ACU is legally required to make the payment to you.

If we cannot process the payment due to missing details, the amount will be transferred to the Office of the Fair Work Ombudsman (OFWO), who will then seek to contact you to arrange payment.

Yes. International payments can be arranged once your identity and banking details are verified.

We will never ask you to confirm or provide your tax, banking or superannuation details by phone or email.

If we need to collect or update your information, we will do so using a secure process, such as a personal, one-time link to a secure online portal.

If we collect new personal information from you, we will provide a privacy collection notice explaining how that information will be handled, and where appropriate, we will seek your consent. We'll only use your information to manage your employment entitlements (including using third parties and systems to do so), but without your information ACU will be unable to pay your entitlement.
