Professor David Thompson from the Mary MacKillop Institute for Health Research will present IHA’s final colloquium for 2015 at 2pm on Wednesday 2 December on the topic of“Psychosocial interventions to improve cardiovascular health”.
David is Professor of Nursing and Director of the Centre for the Heart and Mind, Australian Catholic University; Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, Monash University; and Professorial Fellow in Psychiatry, University of Melbourne.
Prior to this he was Professor of Cardiovascular Nursing, University of Leicester (2007-2010); Professor of Nursing, Chinese University of Hong Kong (2002-2007); Professor of Nursing, University of York (1998-2002); Professor of Nursing, University of Hull (1994-1998); and Professor of Nursing Research (part-time), UK Department of Health (1998-2001).
For 12 years (1980-1992) he was the senior nurse of the coronary care unit at Leicester General Hospital where he developed a cardiac rehabilitation and research program.
He has extensive clinical and research experience in cardiac care and rehabilitation, particularly psychosocial aspects, and has published widely in the nursing, medical and psychological press.
His major research interests are in designing and evaluating novel psychosocial interventions, developing and validating disease-specific patient-reported outcome measures, and conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses in these fields.
