Would you like to know the most effective ways that you can provide support to someone who may be having a tough time?   

A large number of Australians will suffer from some form of a common mental health problem, such as depression or anxiety, in their lifetime.  Everyday stresses can also have a large impact on wellbeing. Knowing how you can reach out to help can make all the difference to someone who is having difficulties.

Staff are encouraged to participate in these upcoming events to learn the most effective ways to offer support:

R U OK? Day Webinar – Thursday 10 September

Register to participate in the 45-minute R U OK? webinar on Thursday 10 September for either the 10am session or 2.30pm session.  

The webinar will be hosted by professional counselling service AccessEAP, and will cover the following:

  • How to ask R U OK? If someone looks like they may need some support
  • Understanding of R U OK? and common mental health concerns  
  • What are the behavioural signs and indicators a person is not coping (what others see)
  • How to identify mental health ‘risk’ and ‘protective’ factors in others
  • Practical ways to support significant others with depression and anxiety
  • Helpful versus unhelpful strategies
  • Medical and Psychological treatment options
Mental Health Awareness Seminar – 8 October

This one-hour session will be conducted via video conference at all campuses on Thursday October 8 from midday to 1pm.

A friend, family member or work colleague may experience mental health difficulties at some stage in their life and will be in need of support. This presentation will equip you with strategies and tips for providing support to those close to you.

The seminar will be facilitated by professional counselling service AccessEAP and will cover the following:

  • Understanding common mental health issues
  • Practical ways to support significant others with depression and anxiety
  • Depression/Anxiety/Mood Disorders
  • Helpful versus unhelpful strategies
  • Behavioural signs and indicators that a person is not coping
  • Medical and psychological treatment options
