Peer Observation and Review of Teaching (PORT) - benefits teachers, observers and the university

At ACU, Peer Observation and Review of Teaching (PORT) is becoming an increasingly popular way for academics to improve their teaching practices in a safe and supportive environment.

PORT is a voluntary program at ACU that enables academics to work with colleagues to observe, reflect and improve their teaching practice.

In 2016, over 40 academics across faculties, have successfully participated in the PORT program. Based on preferences, participants can form duos, trios or even quartets to observe each other teach, discuss “what happened” and share feedback. This allows for an open discussion around the areas of engagement, dynamics, strategies and class management. PORT is not only about classroom teaching; the model can also be used to discuss Rubrics, LEO sites and other aspects of Learning and Teaching.

To support academics interested in participating this reflective teaching activity, Learning for Life has developed a range of resources, including guidelines, manual, case studies, among others that are available on the Learning and Teaching website.
