Building U will provide a range of new office spaces and facilities for Brisbane Campus staff.
Construction of one of ACU’s newest buildings is set to begin early next year at the Brisbane Campus with completion planned for early 2018.
Building U will become home to Marketing, Human Resources, local and national IT and Teaching and Learning staff at the Brisbane Campus.
Many of these staff have been based off campus at The Hub and the new building will allow them to work on campus.
The four-storey building will also feature learning commons across two levels and the top floor will be used as a function space.Properties and Facilities will also utilise the basement of the building for campus infrastructure.
Brisbane Campus staff may have already noticed early works beginning at the site of the new building, with relocation of essential site-wide services including mains electrical, fire hydrants, water, communications and air-conditioning.A main works builder is expected to be appointed by the end of the year, allowing for construction to begin in January.
Architecture firm Thomson Adsett Architects designed the building specifically for ACU, ensuring the building is both unique and respectful of the site.
According to Senior Project Manager Chris Gill, Building U will offer a range of opportunities to ACU.
“The new function space offers a great opportunity for ACU to host events, with fantastic views across to the port, airport, city and ranges,” he said.
Chris said the learning commons would provide space for students work in groups and individually, in silence or conversation.
“The innovative learning space is not seen elsewhere across ACU and will be a great space for students and staff to work collaboratively,” he said.
Service disruptions associated with the construction of the building have been planned outside of office hours in order to reduce the impact to the campus.
Noise from the construction site will be kept to a minimum and construction activity will remain within the site compound that has already been established on campus.
