John Hubert Plunkett: The Martin Luther King of colonial Australia and prosecutor of the Myall Creek massacre trials
To be delivered by Mark Tedeschi AM QC, NSW Senior Crown Prosecutor, and author of Murder at Myall Creek.

The 2016 Plunkett Lecture is part of the new ACU Luminaries Series.
The inaugural Plunkett Lecture was delivered in 1992, initiating a series of annual lectures which address the ethical issues which arise in the allocation and provision of healthcare in Australia. The lectures are one way in which the Plunkett Centre expresses its commitment to intellectual and professional excellence, to fairness and justice and to the great values of compassion and fellowship in healthcare.
This year’s Plunkett Lecture will be delivered by the eminent author, Mark Tedeschi AM QC, NSW Senior Crown Prosecutor. Mark’s most recent book is entitled, Murder at Myall Creek.
The lecture topic will be John Hubert Plunkett – the first Catholic Solicitor General and Attorney General of NSW – after whom the Plunkett Centre is named. Plunkett presided over the infamous Myall Creek massacre trials – a landmark case in the Australian legal system, and was a leader in establishing civil rights in Australia. His legacy remains relevant today. Tedeschi calls him the “Martin Luther King” of Colonial Australia.
