A message from the Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Craven:
Inclusion and equity are a key part of ACU’s mission and values and have seen ACU recognised as a Workplace gender equality leader annually over the past five years.
We’ve recently submitted an application for the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) Employer of Choice for Gender Equality Citation and will be notified early next year of the outcome.
If our application is successful, this will be the sixth consecutive year the University has been awarded this prestigious citation, which recognises organisations that demonstrate leading practice in gender equality.
I recently signed up as a Pay Equity Ambassador with WGEA, joining leaders from a range of organisations who understand, as I do, that achieving gender pay equity is not only the right thing to do, but is also good for business.
In my role as Pay Equity Ambassador I will ensure the University conducts a gender pay gap analysis annually, and actions articulated in ACU’s Gender Equality Strategy to support pay equity are progressed.
These actions include:
- Reviewing employment provisions that encourage women and men to reach their potential, including support for working parents, flexible work arrangements and providing career development opportunities; and
- continuing to think flexibly about options for providing career breaks that support staff to manage their career and family responsibilities
In addition, I will be encouraging my peers in other organisations to sign the pay equity pledge, through communications in external forums such as LinkedIn.
