ACU Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Craven has been recognised by the Australian Council of Deans of Education (ACDE) with an Award for Outstanding Service to Education.

The award was granted in recognition of the Vice-Chancellor’s outstanding leadership and oversight of the Teacher Education Ministerial Advisory Group (TEMAG).

Professor Craven served as Chair of the Advisory Group, which was formed in 2014 to examine how new teachers can be better prepared with the academic and practical skills needed for the classroom.

TEMAG’s report, Action Now: Classroom Ready Teachers was released in 2015, alongside the Government’s response.

“I feel very honoured to be recognised by the ACDE for my role with TEMAG,” Professor Craven said.

“Our report focused on practical and achievable changes to initial teacher education and I’ve been pleased to see many of these recommendations implemented.”

Professor Craven received his award at an ACDE Dinner on Thursday 19 October.
