Professor Kim Foster receives award

Congratulations to Professor Kim Foster and her research team whose journal article has been judged Best Paper and Joint Winner in the Golden Anniversary Special Issue of the prominent medical journal Injury.

The paper is part of a program of collaborative research between mental health and trauma researchers.

Professor Foster who heads ACU’s Mental Health Nursing Research Unit in partnership with NorthWestern Mental Health at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, was the lead author on the paper Resilient, recovering, distressed: A longitudinal qualitative study of parent psychosocial trajectories following child critical injury.

It recommended that parents be screened for psychological distress from the time of a child’s admission and called for a dedicated trauma support role to facilitate integrated care for these children and families.

The paper was peer reviewed against 124 international papers in the field.

The accolade comes as a special issue marks the 50th anniversary of the international journal which deals with all aspects of trauma care and accident surgery.
