ACU is relaunching choirs on the Brisbane, Melbourne, North Sydney and Strathfield campuses. Staff are invited to take part in this unique social and cultural experience.
Directed by experienced choral conductors, the choirs will perform at significant university events throughout the year. ACU Choir Co-ordinator Timothy Sherlock said the choral programme will provide an opportunity for staff to connect socially, improve their general well-being and to learn new skills in musicianship and singing.
'Singing in a choir has been linked to a number of positive health benefits such as reduction of stress, depression and anxiety, lower blood pressure, increased blood oxygen saturation, improved mental health and general feelings of happiness and well-being,' Timothy said.
Timothy said that membership of the campus choir would provide staff with an opportunity to learn music and vocal skills in a safe, supportive and stimulating environment. Repertoire will be selected from a range of musical styles and genres including sacred classics, liturgical, folk, pop, jazz and musical theatre.
Membership will be by audition - one minute of any unaccompanied song - which will be held during the regular rehearsal time in the week commencing 25 February with rehearsals starting the following week.
Staff members are encouraged to register for an audition by emailing choirs@acu.edu.au
