Congratulations on 25 years of service to ACU

Congratulations to our colleagues Dr Andrew Papadimos, Dr Sandra Miles, Ms Ann Marie Majkut and Professor Peta Goldburg who celebrate their 25-year service anniversaries with ACU at this time.

Wishing them continued success and happiness in their ongoing work.

Dr Andrew Papadimos

Andrew came to ACU in January 1995 from the University of Tasmania where he joined the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the Mitchelton campus lecturing in Asian Studies. A few years later, he joined the Faculty's newly formed School of Business, lecturing in International Business and Economics. He was an early graduate of the GCHE at ACU which allowed him to focus on the classroom experience.

Other roles he has held which have assisted countless students in their academic journey over the years include Assistant Head of School, Course Coordinator for the Commerce Degrees, and Course Advisor for the Undergraduate Business Degrees.

Andrew’s focus is first and foremost on supporting students and enhancing the student experience.

He is passionate about providing opportunities for students from a range of backgrounds and worked very closely with the Weemala Indigenous Higher Education Unit in Brisbane as Course Coordinator for the Associate Degree in Business Administration (Indigenous Studies) and Faculty Representative on the University's Indigenous Research Committee.

Andrew’s expertise in Asian studies resulted in him being awarded two international scholarships to study Chinese, one in Guangzhou and one in Taiwan. He was also the recipient of the 2012 Taiwan Fellowship conferred by the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Andrew has also published research in economics and Asian studies in a variety of outlets in both English and Chinese. He has lived, worked and studied in China for over 10 years and most recently was seconded as Team Leader for TAFE Queensland to assist in the delivery of their Shanghai program for 6 months in 2016.

Currently, Andrew continues to actively work on course development within the School's International Business Minor and collaborates with his colleagues on joint research projects.

Dr Sandra Miles

Sandra commenced with ACU in January 1995 and was recruited to lead the paediatric postgraduate nursing specialty. She was instrumental in the transition of postgraduate nursing to an online platform, leading innovation in student online engagement.

Sandra led development of the Program for Nurse Immunisers in 1997 and continues as Course Coordinator, ensuring ongoing program accreditation and course accessibility.

In 2007, Sandra led the implementation of a clinical placement model that ultimately became the basis for the national Clinical School model forming an integral part of the School today.

In 2012 she was appointed as a Research Fellow in a joint nursing research venture of the School and The Prince Charles Hospital.

Her pressure injury prevention research was recently rated by the university as above world standard within her discipline. In 2020, Sandra achieved promotion to Senior Lecturer.

Ms Ann Marie Majkut

Ann began working at ACU in 1995 as an Academic Skills Advisor at the McAuley campus Brisbane and has provided valued support for our diverse ACU student body.

Ann, as Academic Skills Team Leader has led as well as contributed to many campus and national initiatives including the text, Looking at Academic Writing (1996) a teaching and learning resource for use at McAuley campus. This successful text arose from an ACU Teaching Development Project. Two further publications followed and are precursors to the current online ACU Study Guide: Skills for Success.

A colleague to all and a leader to many Ann has been a valued and significant presence within the Academic Skills Unit and the Office of Student Success.

Professor Peta Goldburg

Foundation Professor of Religious Education Professor Peta Goldburg began her study in religious education and theology in 1983 and graduated with a PhD from the University of Newcastle, a Masters of Arts (Studies in Theology) from the University of Queensland and, a Masters of Religious Education from the Australian Catholic University.

While she has published widely on a range of topics that include religion and the arts, and world religions (particularly Judaism), it is in the field of Religious Education that Peta is best known and most acclaimed.

As a Fellow of the Australian College of Educators (FACE), and former Head of the School of Religious Education, Peta has played a lead role in the design and development of curriculum for Brisbane Catholic Education and, the Queensland Studies Authority.

She is widely acclaimed by students as an inspiring, engaging and stimulating teacher and by colleagues as someone who has demonstrated extraordinary levels of generosity, enthusiasm and commitment to the many leadership roles she has undertaken.

Her success is a testament to her dedication, her resourcefulness and, her principled work ethic.
