Professor Sandy Middleton wins NHMRC grant

ACU’s Professor Sandy Middleton has won a $1.35 million National and Health Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Investigator Grant.

The university congratulates Professor Middleton, who is the Director of the Nursing Research Institute (NRI), a collaboration between Australian Catholic University, St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney and St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.

The Minister for Health the Hon. Greg Hunt MP announced the outcomes of the 2020 Investigator Grants rounds on 20 May. The grants were established by the Federal Government to support the research programs of outstanding investigators at all career stages. While only 13% of applicants were successful this year, the scheme provides funding over five years, commencing in 2021.

Professor Middleton’s Investigator Grant Transforming acute hospital care to improve outcomes for stroke will build on her current program of stroke research. Professor Middleton’s stroke research to date has resulted in changes to health policy, health system cost savings, and improved patient outcomes. It has attracted strong interest and engagement nationally and internationally. For more information about her current research, please visit the NRI’s projects webpage.
