Academic Promotions Policy and Procedures review

The Provost has now begun a review of the Academic Promotions Policy, Academic Promotions Procedures, guidelines, and all associated documentation. The intention is to refresh the promotions policy and processes to ensure they are implemented transparently, with consideration to achievement relative to opportunity and are aligned to mission and strategic intent.

Two key groups have been formed to oversee the review process which will be led by Professor Meg Stuart. An Advisory group, which includes academic staff nominated by the Executive Deans and representing all academic appointment levels and career pathways, and a smaller Governance group.

The review will commence with some focused benchmarking of key drivers for promotion decision makers. Both domestic and international benchmarking partners will be selected.

Human resources will be closely involved and, in partnership, we anticipate the review process to be complete with updated documentation tabled for the November meeting of the Academic Board, for implementation in 2022.

Staff intending to apply for promotion in 2022 will be able to elect under which process they apply, and from 2023 it is intended that all applicants will use the new process unless there are compelling reasons not to do so.

Extensive consultation with academic staff will commence from July and continue through August.
