A message from Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Coordination) Professor Hayden Ramsay:
I am pleased to announce that, in August this year, Ms Marita Winters will become Chair of ACU’s NSW Chapter. Ms Winters has been appointed to this role by Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP, and she will succeed Brother Kelvin Canavan fms.
ACU has four state Chapters – one each in the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria – which provide an interface between the university and the local community, and act as advisory bodies to Senate.
Ms Winters is the Chief Executive Officer of Dominican Education Australia. She has previously held a number of communications and governance roles and brings more than 25 years of experience in leadership roles within religious organisations and community groups. Ms Winters obtained her Master of Philosophy (Theology) in 2018 from the University of Notre Dame Australia. She also holds a Bachelor of Communications and a Graduate Diploma of Theology of Marriage and Family.
Ms Winters has a most impressive skillset and will help carry forward the NSW Chapter and its work. I look forward to her beginning her role at the next Chapter meeting on 16 August.
I would like to acknowledge the contributions of Brother Kelvin Canavan fms, who has been part of the life of our Sydney campuses from the beginning of ACU’s existence. As well as being a visiting professor both here and at the University of Notre Dame Australia, working as Executive Director of Sydney Catholic schools for 20 years, and holding a unique place in contemporary Catholic education, Brother Kelvin has served on the NSW Chapter for 30 years, most recently as Chapter Chair.
The university is extremely grateful to the members of each of our Chapters for their service and loyal contribution to ACU. The NSW Chapter now has the distinction of three campuses within its remit. Together with the new Chair, we look forward to the participation of Chapter members in the life of Blacktown, Strathfield and North Sydney campuses.
Nominations are now open to appoint two members of our academic staff to the university Senate for a term ending in 2028.
