A healthy society is a respectful society

One of the greatest risk factors we are dealing with when it comes to staying safe is lack of respect. This is true for children, young people and adults alike.

Respect for others is a key element of the Respect. Now. Always. program, a ground-breaking initiative launched by Universities Australia in 2016. The initiative focuses on preventing sexual harassment and sexual assault in university communities and improving how universities respond to and support those who have been affected.

At ACU, we are committed to raising awareness of sexual assault and sexual harassment and lift the visibility of support services for students.

ACU formally set up a Respect. Now. Always. Advisory Committee back in 2016 to provide advice, recommendations and oversight of activities and projects across the university.

We have asked a few members of the Respect. Now. Always. Advisory Committee to share their thoughts on the initiative.

Watch Chief Operating Officer Dr Stephen Weller's reply in this first instalment.

We will bring you more reflections from other members of the committee over the coming months.
