ACU is Australia’s leading tertiary institution for Theology, Divinity and Religious Studies, according to the 2022 QS World University Rankings by Subject.
ACU was ranked 26th in the world for its theology discipline, placing first in Australia for the subject, ranking ahead of the University of Melbourne and the University of Sydney.
For 2022, ACU also ranked highly in the following five QS subject areas: Nursing (=50); Education (=100); Sports-related subjects (ranked 51-100) and Psychology (ranked 201-250); as well as ranking for in Arts and Humanities (ranked 451-500).
Executive Dean of the Faculty of Theology and Philosophy, Professor Dermot Nestor, said the Australian-first ranking was a proud moment for the institution.
“The ranking adds further validity to the faculty’s enrolment profile in the relevant disciplines and its significant work with stakeholders locally, nationally and internationally,” Professor Nestor said.
The QS subject rankings cover a total of 51 disciplines, as well as five broad subject areas of Arts and Humanities, Engineering and Technology, Life Sciences and Medicine, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences and Management.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Zlatko Skrbis said the 2022 results confirmed ACU as a leading Catholic institution that offered a broad but globally significant range of courses and research output.
“Since 1991 ACU has dedicated itself to the pursuit of truth, dignity of the human person and the common good, and our 2022 rankings is evidence of this commitment,” Professor Skrbis said.
“I particularly congratulate our researchers and academics in ACU’s Institute for Religion and Critical Inquiry and the Faculty of Theology and Philosophy for leading Australia’s contribution to the study of theology and religion in such a way that we are Australia’s highest ranked university in the subject area.
“One of the key responsibilities of a Catholic university is to contribute to religious scholarship.
“Our 2022 QS ranking in the subject of Theology, Divinity and Religious Studies demonstrates ACU’s commitment and implementation of this important mission.”
