The Australian Government has introduced new requirements for domestic students receiving government funding. Join a webinar to learn about the requirements, which came into effect on 1 January, what they mean, and how this change will impact our students and staff.
To protect students who are not making sufficient progress from incurring high student fee debt, the government has introduced a minimum 50 per cent completion rate requirement (also known as low completion rate).
This impacts all domestic students commencing in a course at diploma level and above from 2022 onwards.
Domestic students commencing from 2022 in a diploma course are required to achieve a minimum completion rate of 50 per cent in their current course. This requirement will be enforced after attempting four (4) units and thereafter.
Domestic students commencing from 2022 in a bachelor’s course or higher are required to achieve a minimum completion rate of 50 per cent in their current course. This requirement will be enforced after attempting eight (8) units and thereafter.
Students who do not meet the minimum completion rate after attempting either four (diploma) or eight (bachelor and above) units will not be eligible for Commonwealth support, including HECS-HELP and FEE-HELP. From the following study period, students will be required to pay domestic full fees upfront to ACU.
While the minimum completion rate is similar to academic progress, there are fundamental differences. Students will need a higher level of administrative and academic guidance to navigate through their course and this will involve many different areas of ACU. Beyond this, there may also be an impact to retention and government funding.
Academic and professional staff across ACU are encouraged to attend a webinar to learn more about this change and determine how it impacts you and our students.
