Open educational resources

Join the Library for a special online event, 'So you want to write an open textbook?' with Dr Amanda White on 26 October at 1pm.

The session will explore the role that open educational resources (OER) can play in ensuring equity in knowledge sharing in an academic setting.

Guest speaker Dr Amanda White from the University of Technology, Sydney, will discuss her experience producing an open textbook for first-year accounting students.

The textbook Accounting and Accountability will be used by over 2000 students at UTS annually. By using an existing open educational resource and adapting it for the Australian environment, Amanda was able to ensure that the resource met accessibility requirements, included a diverse range of perspectives, was sustainable and free to students.

She will share why open textbooks are helping enable a modern and up-to-date curriculum.

Dr Amanda White is a Senior Lecturer and the Deputy Head (Education) of the Accounting Discipline in the UTS Business School and has been teaching accounting at the university level for almost two decades. She has received awards for her work in creating accessible resources, OER and academic integrity.
