Chair of Academic Board’s Update

Academic Board:

  • approved the Academic Board Risk Register for 2023 and noted the associated actions to mitigate risk
  • noted the Chair of Academic Board Approvals.
Vice-Chancellor and President’s (VCP) Update

Academic Board:

  • noted the Report of the VCP as circulated in the papers in the absence of the VCP
  • noted the reappointment of Professor Tim McKenry for a further three-year term of office as Chair of Academic Board, commencing 7 August 2023 through to 6 August 2026 inclusive, presented by Dr Stephen Weller, Chief Operating Officer & Deputy Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor.
Provost’s Update

The Interim Provost reported on:

  • the report’s Directorate focus area was Global Education Pathways (GEP)
  • the university’s current EFTSL enrolment numbers
  • the departure of Melissa Collins, Policy and Project Officer from the Office of the Provost

Academic Board:

  • noted the Office of the Provost’s Directorate Focus on GEP update, presented by Bronwyn Bartsch, Director, Global Engagement
  • noted and discussed the QILT-SES-National Report 2022
  • noted the Western Civilisation Program Review (2023) – Review Outcomes and Action Plan.
Vice-President’s Update

Academic Board:

  • noted the Report of the Vice-President as circulated in the papers in the absence of the Vice-President
  • noted and discussed the recommendations and commendations arising from the Review of the design, functioning and effectiveness of community engagement units at ACU.

Academic Board:

  • discussed and noted a new approach to Orientation and transition activities at ACU, presented by Marta Spes-Skrbis, Director, Pathways and Sarah Rose, Associate Director, Student Experience. 
Reporting Committees
1. Courses and Academic Quality Committee (CAQC

Academic Board:

  • noted the report of the Chair of the Courses and Academic Quality Committee, dated 27 June 2023
  • approved the major course change to the Bachelor of International Development Studies, consisting of the amendment of the course rules and maps for the International Development Studies major and minor
  • approved the major course change to the:
    • Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Creative Arts – discontinuation of the Digital Technologies major on the Brisbane and Melbourne campuses; discontinuation of the Digital Technologies (Computing) minor on the Blacktown, Brisbane and Melbourne campuses
    • Bachelor of Education (Secondary)/Bachelor of Arts (Design and Innovation Technologies) – for discontinuation on the Brisbane and Melbourne campuses.
  • approved the recommendation of the course review (in compliance with the Course Accreditation, Amendment, Review and Discontinuation (CAARD) Policy) of the:
    • Master of Mental Health
    • Graduate Diploma in Mental Health
    • Graduate Certificate in Mental Health
    • Master of Mental Health Nursing
    • Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing
    • Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Nursing
  • approved the major course change to the:
    • Master of Mental Health
    • Graduate Diploma in Mental Health
    • Graduate Certificate in Mental Health
    • Master of Mental Health Nursing
    • Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing
    • Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Nursing
  • approved the major course change to the Diploma in Exercise Science for offer on the Strathfield Campus
  • approved the major course change proposal for the Master of Clinical Nursing and the Graduate Diploma in Clinical Nursing for offer via ACU Online
  • approved the major course change, consisting of the addition of Brisbane as a location of delivery for the:
    • Master of Business Administration (MBAZN)
    • Master of Professional Accounting (MPRACN)
  • noted the course suspensions approved by the Provost since the previous Academic Board meeting on 24 May 2023, namely:
    • Consideration of status of FHS courses suspended in January 2023, dated 10 May 2023
    • Suspension of admissions for FEA courses listed for Semester 2, 2023, dated 29 May 2023
    • noted the minutes.
