International Day of Education 2024

Wednesday 24 January is UNESCO’s International Day of Education. To celebrate we are sharing content from our research repository, ACU Research Bank.

UNESCO is dedicating this sixth observance of the day and theme "Learning for lasting peace," to the crucial role education and teachers play in countering hate speech, a phenomenon which has snowballed in recent years with the use of social media and damaging the fabric of our societies.

UNESCO’s 2023 General Conference published the Recommendation on Education for Peace, Human Rights and Sustainable Development. The recommendation stated that “Learning for peace must be transformative, and help empower learners with the necessary knowledge, values, attitudes and skills and behaviours to become agents of peace in their communities.”

The ACU mission includes a commitment to equity in education and the university strives to make meaningful contributions to education in all of our disciplines.
