Project updates

A message from Acting Chief Operating Officer Paul Campbell.

The start of Semester 2 is a busy and exciting time for the university and for many teams across Corporate Services. I am pleased to share an update on Student Administration projects with you.

Enrolment planning and tracking tool

One of the most significant projects currently underway is the implementation of ACU’s new enrolment planning and tracking tool. This project is progressing well and a small group of course coordinators recently received access to trial the enrolment audit. The audit clearly lays out the course requirements (based on the rules in CMAS and the handbook) and the student’s progress through their course.  Two new reports are also being developed to help with enrolment tracking. The first report will allow staff to bulk identify students who are enrolled in units that don’t contribute to their course. This will significantly improve the timely identification and correction of student enrolment problems. The second report will allow us, for the first time, to track students’ progress against their course rules, rather than simply by counting credit points. Initial feedback from the course coordinators who have been involved in the trial has been very positive. They have reported that the interface is clear and easy to use. They expect it to appeal to students and to dramatically reduce the time required to assess students for course completion. Over the coming weeks the tool will be rolled out to more course coordinators and Student Administration will also be undertaking user testing with students. The tool will be made available to students enrolled in 20 popular courses in time for re-enrolment in October, with a further 12 courses released by the start of Semester 1, 2025. Together, students in these courses make up more than two-thirds of ACU’s student enrolment.

CMAS (Curriculum Management and Approval System)

There have been several recent enhancements to CMAS.  Unit pages in the handbook have been redesigned to enhance the information presented to students, including the unit availability and delivery mode. In conjunction with ACU Global Engagement, Student Administration is also introducing a template to capture international offering information in CMAS and publish it on the ACU website. These enhancements will be available when the 2025 course browser and handbook go live on 1 August.

Degree Verification System

Student Administration will also soon launch a new public website that will allow employers to easily confirm the validity of ACU students’ qualifications. This free service will relieve AskACU of more than one thousand manual verifications each year. It’s anticipated this will be available later this year.
