Support for grandparents and families

Sunday 28 July is World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly.  In establishing this day, Pope Francis recognised that grandparents are the link between the different generations. A recent study from the Australian Institute of Family Studies also found that two in five grandparents provide care to their grandchildren to support parents’ work.

Grandparents can also play a particularly important role in caring for their families when a new family member arrives. Whether it’s cooking meals, folding the washing, or simply holding a fussy baby while the new parents get some sleep, the help of a grandparent can be invaluable at this time.

Did you know that ACU offers up to 10 days personal leave for staff to care for their child or grandchild during the six-month period from the date of birth or adoption?  More information is available in the Personal Leave Policy.
