Windows 11 for ACU-issued devices

All new model ACU-issued computers for staff will be deployed with Windows 11 and have a slightly different look and feel.

You will notice some interface changes such as:

  • the start menu button now positioned in the centre of the screen
  • some common functions such as cut, copy, and paste, delete, rename and share which previously displayed as text when right clicking, is now displayed with simple icons.
  • a centred taskbar which still allows you to pin program icons and easily change the taskbar settings.
  • customisable start menu has a new look:
    • Windows search bar now presents at the top
    • you can pin frequently used programs to appear here
    • a 'recommended' section which shows frequently used apps and files which can be disabled in settings
    • the power button is now located in the bottom right of the start menu.

What does this mean for my existing ACU-issued device?

Plans are also in development to upgrade all existing computers with the Windows 11 upgrade, at minimal disruption to staff.

Future phases of the planned rollout to existing devices will be shared later in the year.

This puts us on the right foot to switch over all devices before Microsoft ends their support of Windows 10, by October of 2025.
